DU Administration Unveils Timeline for DUCSU Election Preparations
The University of Dhaka has shared an official timeline outlining steps toward organizing the long-anticipated Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election. While the specific month for the polls remains undecided, the university has confirmed that preparations are actively underway.
This information was disclosed through a press release issued on Tuesday, signed by Rafiqul Islam, the acting director of the university’s Public Relations Office. The release emphasized that the current DU administration considers Ducsu an integral component of student representation and university governance.
Citing growing interest among students, the administration stated its commitment to holding a fair and credible election. Since December 2024, officials have been consulting with various stakeholders, including student bodies and faculty members, to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the process.
As part of these efforts, the university has published a roadmap detailing the progress made so far. Discussions with stakeholders began in December, during which a final draft of the democratic framework for the election was shared with student organizations. That draft is currently awaiting approval from the university’s Syndicate body.
Additionally, a Code of Conduct Review Committee was established in January and has since convened seven times. It too has completed consultations with different student groups, and the finalized version of the code will soon be presented to the Syndicate for approval.
Talks are also ongoing with deans, provosts, and department heads to further shape the election framework.
The appointment of the election commission—including the chief returning officer and assistant returning officers—is scheduled for the first half of May. During this time, the voter list will also be finalized with administrative support.
Following these steps, the election commission will announce the official timeline for campaign activities and voting. However, the press release clarified that the specific month for the election process has yet to be finalized.
