The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded that the Awami League be banned through new legislation within the next 15 days.
NCP leaders made the demand during a protest rally and march held on Monday (April 21) in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area. The demonstration called for a ban on the Awami League’s political activities, reforms, and the formation of a Constituent Assembly.
During the rally, NCP leaders described the Awami League as a “Hitler-like” party, saying it should be banned and prosecuted in the same manner Nazi forces were judged after being outlawed.
Addressing BNP, NCP leaders accused the party of indirectly siding with the Awami League and warned that if such behavior continued, the NCP would be forced to take to the streets against BNP as well. They further claimed that BNP was obstructing the ongoing reform movement.
The protest march concluded with a procession through various streets in Mohammadpur. Senior NCP leaders, including Chief Joint Organizer Ali Russell, were present during the event.
