KUET Students Slam Administration Over Campus Crisis, Demand VC’s Removal

Students at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have intensified their protest against Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Masud, issuing a 24-hour ultimatum for his resignation and warning of an indefinite hunger strike if their demands go unmet.

The declaration was made during a press briefing on Sunday afternoon at the university’s Student Welfare Centre. Leaders from the 20th batch of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management departments—Syed Saikat and Upol—presented the student body’s grievances.

According to them, the administration’s failure to provide security against external attacks and alleged support for student political activities have led to growing frustration. Students claim that instead of addressing their concerns, the authorities targeted protestors with weak legal action, restrictions, and hall closures.

Among the most severe accusations was that students were left to sleep outside under the open sky for two nights after Eid due to the university’s decision not to reopen dormitories. They also reported intentional cuts to essential services like water and internet, as well as the removal of graffiti expressing dissent.

The protesting students further alleged that confidential CCTV footage and internal information were handed to outsiders, which they say led to false charges against students, including accusations like chain snatching.

Despite a months-long protest and the submission of a five-point demand, no dialogue or substantial action has come from the university administration, they said. Thirty students were expelled, while others faced threats meant to silence their movement.

They concluded the briefing by reiterating that unless their demands are acknowledged or addressed, they will proceed with their hunger strike starting Monday.
