15-Year-Old Muslim Girl Killed While Trying to Save Father in Mob Attack in Telangana
A tragic incident in Telangana has drawn widespread outrage after a 15-year-old girl lost her life while attempting to protect her father from a violent mob. The incident has reignited national concerns about religious violence targeting Muslims in India.
The incident took place on February 11 in Antharam village, located in Zaheerabad under Sangareddy district. According to local reports, Ismail Mohammed, the victim’s father, was allegedly relieving himself in an open field adjacent to homes owned by two Hindu men, Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy. The altercation quickly escalated as the two men reportedly mobilized nearly 40 others to attack Ismail with stones.
His daughter, Aliya Begum, rushed to shield her father from the mob but sustained severe injuries in the process. She succumbed to those injuries four days later, on February 15.
The case has sparked public outrage, with community leaders and political figures demanding immediate justice. Kausar Mohiuddin, a lawmaker from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), visited the grieving family and pressed law enforcement for swift action. He described the attack as a threat to the broader community, criticizing what he called a delayed response from the authorities.
Meanwhile, political tensions surrounding the case grew as Amjadullah Khan Khalid, a spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), claimed he was denied access to the family by police. He demanded a High Court-led judicial inquiry, full arrests of those involved, and compensation for the victim’s family, including a government job and housing.
Legal support has also stepped in. Advocates from the All India Milli Council, including Afsar Jahan and Sujaath, have filed official complaints and are working to ensure the accused do not receive bail.
Concerns have been raised about the increasing vulnerability of Muslim communities in the region. Locals claim the incident has disrupted communal harmony and left many feeling unsafe. Muslim leaders have cautioned that a lack of accountability could further fuel religious tensions.
So far, police have named Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy in their reports, but local leaders are demanding the arrest of all 40 individuals allegedly involved in the assault.
Aliya Begum’s untimely death has become a stark symbol of rising communal violence and a rallying point for demands of justice, security, and systemic reform.
