Shakib Khan’s Borbaad Enters IMDb’s Top 100, Marks Global Breakthrough for Bangladeshi Cinema
Shakib Khan’s Eid release Borbaad continues to dominate headlines, now making history as the first Bangladeshi film to secure a spot on IMDb’s list of the world’s top 100 most popular movies.
Just 17 days after hitting theatres, the Mehedi Hasan Hridoy-directed action drama has climbed to the 44th position on IMDb’s popularity chart. The film, which holds a 7.4 rating, shares company with global blockbusters like Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Captain America: Brave New World, Snow White, and A Minecraft Movie.
Director Mehedi Hasan Hridoy called the milestone a proud moment for the entire Bangladeshi film industry. “This achievement shows that Bangladeshi cinema is now finding recognition beyond borders. It’s not just a personal victory—it’s a turning point for our industry,” he said.
Borbaad has been drawing packed crowds since its Eid premiere in Bangladeshi theatres, resonating with local audiences and generating strong word-of-mouth. Riding the wave of domestic success, the film is now gearing up for an international rollout.
Production house Real Energy has announced the global release schedule: Borbaad will premiere in the U.S. on April 18 and in Canada on April 19. Australian and New Zealand audiences can catch it on April 26, with further releases planned in Italy and Malaysia later this month.
As Borbaad continues its box office journey, it stands as a powerful symbol of Dhallywood’s growing global appeal—proving that Bangladeshi films can compete on the world stage.
