July Uprising Directorate Formed Under Liberation War Ministry
The government has formally launched the July Uprising Directorate to honor and institutionalize the legacy of the 2024 mass movement that led to the ouster of the Awami League government. The directorate will focus on preserving the history of the uprising, supporting the families of victims, and promoting its values at a national level.
A gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on 28 April confirmed the formation of the new directorate. The initiative stems from a decision taken during the Advisory Council meeting held on 12 December last year.
The move follows an inter-ministerial meeting on 28 December, chaired by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, where it was agreed that the directorate would be formed under the ministry. The Advisory Council later endorsed the decision.
In addition, the Secretary Committee on Administrative Development has approved the creation of 33 positions to support the new directorate’s operations.
The directorate is expected to play a key role in rehabilitating those affected by the movement and integrating the uprising’s ideals into national consciousness
