Tips to keep your clothes looking new for a long time

The Chronify

Many people can’t give special care to their clothes due to lack of time. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend extra hours to keep your clothes in good condition. In fact, by keeping just a few simple things in mind, your clothes can stay looking as good as new.

Don’t Let Stains Dry on Clothes

Often, while eating, food accidentally spills on clothes and leaves stains. Turmeric stains, for instance, are quite stubborn and difficult to remove once they dry. So, it’s best to clean the stain as soon as it happens. If possible, wash the garment immediately. If not, avoid rubbing the stained area too hard instead, soak it in water for a while. Blotting paper can also help lift fresh stains.

Avoid Washing Clothes Too Often

To preserve the color and texture of your clothes, don’t wash them too frequently. Unless absolutely necessary, avoid washing after every single wear. Laundry detergents often contain harsh chemicals and alkalis, which can damage fabric if used too often. More detergent doesn’t mean cleaner clothes in fact, excessive use can cause fading and dullness.

Turn Clothes Inside Out Before Washing

To prevent dark-colored clothes from fading, turn them inside out before washing. This is especially helpful if your clothes have prints or fabric designs on the outside. Many people love printed T-shirts, but frequent washing can make the designs fade quickly. Turning them inside out helps maintain their appearance and color for longer.

Wash Similar Colors Together

Make sure your favorite white shirt doesn’t absorb color from other garments. Separate clothes by color before washing — never wash whites with colored items. Colored fabrics tend to bleed during washing, so wash them separately on different days to protect your whites.

Avoid Excessive Ironing

Be mindful of the temperature when ironing your clothes. High heat can damage the fabric fibers and even burn the stitching. To maintain the quality and texture of your clothes, avoid ironing too frequently and always use a suitable heat setting for each fabric type.
