DU to Open Undergraduate Admission Applications on 11 November, Tests Begin 5 December

The University of Dhaka (DU) will begin accepting online applications for undergraduate admission to the 2026–27 academic session on 11 November, with admission tests scheduled to start from 5 December.

The university announced the admission timeline, eligibility requirements and examination schedule following a meeting of its General Admission Committee on 2 August at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam chaired the meeting.


According to the university, prospective students will be able to submit their applications online from 12:00pm on 11 November. The application process will remain open until 11:59pm on 25 November.


Admission tests will be conducted for five academic units as part of the undergraduate admission process. The IBA unit examination will be held first on 5 December, followed by the Science unit on 12 December.


The Arts, Law and Social Science unit admission test will take place on 19 December, while the Fine Arts unit examination is scheduled for 22 December. The Business Studies unit test will conclude the admission test schedule on 26 December.


For most units, admission tests will be conducted simultaneously in Dhaka and seven divisional centres outside the capital. The centres are Rajshahi University, the University of Chittagong, the University of Barishal, Khulna University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh and Begum Rokeya University.

The Fine Arts and IBA units will be excluded from this multi-centre arrangement.


DU will continue using a mixed-format examination system for most of its admission tests. Under the system, candidates will answer both multiple-choice and written questions.


For the general admission tests, 60 marks will be allocated to multiple-choice questions and 40 marks to written questions. The Fine Arts unit will have 40 marks for multiple-choice questions and 60 marks for drawing.

The IBA admission test will follow a different structure, with 70 marks allocated to multiple-choice questions and 30 marks to descriptive questions.

Candidates will be evaluated on a total of 120 marks. Of these, 100 marks will come from the admission examination, while the remaining 20 marks will be based on the candidates' SSC or equivalent and HSC or equivalent academic results.


The university has also announced specific academic eligibility requirements for applicants. Candidates must have completed their SSC or equivalent examination between 2021 and 2024 and their HSC or equivalent examination in 2026.


Minimum combined GPA requirements will differ depending on the academic unit. The required combined GPA from SSC and HSC examinations, including the fourth subject, will range from 6.5 to 8.0.

The admission committee also approved separate question papers for English-medium applicants seeking admission to the Science unit. The university said the decision was taken to ensure that the examination questions remain consistent with the curriculum followed by English-medium students.

The admission process is expected to attract a large number of applicants from across Bangladesh, making the university's decision to maintain examination centres outside Dhaka particularly significant for students living in other regions.

The university has scheduled the start of academic classes for the 2026–27 session on 28 March 2027.

With the application period beginning in November and the first admission test taking place in early December, prospective students are expected to begin preparing for the examinations well ahead of the application deadline.
