Actor reveals sequel will retain original humour while introducing a new storyline set a decade after the first film.

Aamir Khan has officially confirmed that a sequel to the blockbuster 3 Idiots is currently in development, putting an end to months of speculation.

In a recent interview, the actor revealed that the script for the upcoming film is still being refined but described the story as “very good,” combining the same humour that made the original popular with a fresh and unusual narrative. The sequel is expected to revisit the storyline roughly a decade after the events of the first film.

Aamir also indicated his willingness to reprise his iconic role as Phunsukh Wangdu, a character inspired by real-life educator Sonam Wangchuk. The project is being developed by director Rajkumar Hirani along with writer Abhijat Joshi.

Industry reports suggest that the sequel could reunite key cast members from the original film, including R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor, although no official casting announcement has been made.

The original film, released in 2009, remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated productions, known for its social message and box office success. With development now underway, expectations are high for the sequel to deliver a similarly impactful cinematic experience.
