iPhone 17 Creates Buzz, Apple Boosts Production
The Chronify
Apple’s new smartphone, the iPhone 17, has created a huge buzz in the global market. Due to strong pre-orders, the company has instructed that production of the basic model be increased by at least 30 percent. Reuters reported this information, citing The Information.
The report states that more customers than expected are choosing the $799 iPhone 17, with many showing greater interest in the basic version rather than the premium Pro models. In this situation, Apple’s key supplier in China, Luxshare, has reportedly been asked to increase daily production by nearly 40 percent. However, Apple has not yet commented on the matter.
Analysts believe that the newly introduced thinner model in the iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone Air, will help boost sales momentum. Smartphone sales have stagnated in recent years, as new versions offered few major updates, leading to fewer upgrades by customers.
This time, however, the entry-level iPhone 17 includes display and camera upgrades that were previously available only in Pro models. As a result, the gap between the Pro and basic models has narrowed significantly.
Although Apple has traditionally pushed customers toward higher-priced devices, pressure from price-sensitive markets seems to be driving a shift in strategy. This raises questions about how sustainable Apple’s growth will be if it continues to rely solely on premium upgrades.
