Chattogram Port Records Historic Performance in 2025
Chattogram Port Achieves All-Time High Revenue and Operational Milestones Amidst Challenges
The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) closed 2025 with its most impressive performance to date, setting new records for revenue and operational capacity despite significant challenges, including labour unrest, customs work stoppages, and broader national instability. The port's total revenue reached Tk 54.60 billion, marking a notable 7.55 percent increase compared to 2024. Surplus income also surged to Tk 31.43 billion, highlighting the port's financial strength and resilience during uncertain times.
In terms of operational performance, 2025 proved to be a landmark year for the port. The CPA handled 3.409 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), 138.2 million tonnes of cargo, and a total of 4,273 vessel movements. This was the first time the port exceeded the 3.4 million TEU threshold, demonstrating significant growth. The port also improved its operational efficiency, reducing vessel turnaround and container dwell times, which led to faster trade flows. This operational improvement has been particularly beneficial for export-oriented sectors, such as the ready-made garments industry, reaffirming Chattogram Port’s vital role as Bangladesh’s primary gateway for international trade.
