Don’t mess with me: Mamata to BJP

According to the pre-scheduled plan, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was supposed to travel to Bongaon by helicopter. But due to a licensing-related issue with the aviation company, the helicopter could not take off, and she ultimately had to reach the event venue by road.
On Tuesday, she took part in an event opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bongaon, a town in North 24 Parganas district bordering Bangladesh. Later, she addressed a public rally at Trikone Park and, after the program, joined a nearly three-kilometer march from Chandpada to Thakurnagar.
According to sources, the helicopter had undergone a test run the day before (Monday). However, no licensing issues were mentioned at that time. Just before the visit, on Tuesday afternoon, the aviation company suddenly informed that the helicopter would not be able to fly.
The Chief Minister launched a strong attack on the BJP over the incident. Speaking at the Bongaon rally, she said, “First, I must apologize for being a little late. But there’s a funny story behind it. I haven’t used a helicopter for many months. Today, because I had multiple events, a helicopter was arranged. I was supposed to leave at 12. Then suddenly news came that the helicopter wouldn’t fly. The election hasn’t even begun, and already the conflict has started!”
She added, “Coming by road allowed me to meet many people. I visited many areas. In fact, the public interaction turned out even better.”
Aiming at the BJP, the Chief Minister said, “I keep telling the BJP- Don’t mess with me. If I choose to play the game, you won’t be able to catch me, touch me, or even come close. Spend crores of rupees as you wish- people may take the money but they won’t vote for you.”
Recalling her political struggle, Mamata added, “I come from a student movement background. I never leave anything unfinished. I fasted for 26 days demanding that the land in Singur be returned to farmers. I didn’t back down until the demand was met. So cancel my helicopter, block the roads, do whatever you want- nothing affects me. Just as I have always fought in life, the path itself will show me the way.”
