The Chronify

The release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has been postponed once again, now expected to launch on November 19, 2026. This is the second delay for the highly anticipated sequel by Rockstar Games, originally scheduled for release in May 2026.

Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most anticipated video game releases in recent years, has been delayed yet again by Rockstar Games. The game, which was initially slated for a May 2026 release, will now launch on November 19, 2026. This marks the second time the game's release has been postponed, with the first delay moving the release from autumn 2025.

Rockstar Games issued a statement explaining that the additional time was needed to ensure the game meets the high expectations of its fanbase. The company apologized for the extended wait and thanked players for their patience during this period of anticipation.

The sequel to the hugely successful Grand Theft Auto 5, which was released in 2013, has been under development for several years. Despite being over a decade old, GTA 5 continues to be extremely popular, largely due to its online mode. Rockstar's decision to delay GTA 6 was influenced by the desire to deliver a game with the level of polish that fans expect.

Set in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, GTA 6 promises to take players on a thrilling adventure through a modern-day version of Vice City. Rockstar expressed their excitement about the game's setting and the new characters, including protagonists Jason and Lucia, a couple living a life of crime in the state.

The announcement of the delay follows a wave of controversy surrounding Rockstar's UK studios. On October 30, 2025, 31 workers were fired, leading to accusations from the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) that the company was attempting to prevent staff from unionizing. The IWGB led rallies outside Rockstar's offices in Edinburgh and London, demanding better treatment of workers.

Despite the ongoing delays and controversies, Rockstar has managed to keep details about GTA 6 under wraps. Two trailers for the game have been released, with the second arriving in May 2025. The trailers, which have amassed millions of views, provided more insight into the backstory of Jason and Lucia and revealed new characters and map locations.

With the game's development costs soaring and the increasing demand for complexity and scope from players, Rockstar is taking no chances with an unfinished product. The game is expected to become one of the most expensive video games ever created and is poised to break sales records upon its release.

As fans continue to wait, the question remains: Will GTA 6 live up to the enormous hype? Only time will tell when the game finally lands in 2026.
