On Wednesday, December 31, the Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House, Jamuna, in Dhaka. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral ties and discussing key issues.
This meeting occurred amidst an outpouring of international tributes to Bangladesh's former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia. Foreign Ministers from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan, along with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, paid their respects to the late leader, acknowledging her significant role in the country’s political landscape.
Notably, Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Nepali Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, and Bhutanese Foreign Minister Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel were among those who offered condolences.
The late Begum Khaleda Zia was laid to rest with state honors beside her late husband, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, in Zia Udyan at around 4:30 PM. Her passing, following months of medical treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, has triggered three days of national mourning in Bangladesh, with Wednesday declared a public holiday.
