A 12-year-old boy named Sayedul, who had been living as a street child in Dhaka for years after getting lost as a child, has finally been reunited with his parents in an emotional reunion made possible through a viral Facebook post.
According to reports, Sayedul was found among a group of street children in the capital’s Purana Paltan area, where he had been living after accidentally arriving in Dhaka by train during childhood. He survived by collecting bottles, working in scrap shops, and living under a tree in the city, while continuously expressing his wish to return home.
The breakthrough came after a journalist shared Sayedul’s story and identity details on Facebook, asking the public to help locate his family. The post quickly spread, receiving thousands of reactions and shares, eventually leading relatives to identify the child.
Within hours, family members including his uncle contacted the journalist and provided confirmation through documents and childhood photos. After verification, arrangements were made to reunite Sayedul with his parents in Dhaka under proper supervision.
Sayedul’s parents, who had spent years searching for him, arrived in the capital and were finally able to embrace their son after five long years. The emotional reunion took place in the presence of local authorities and social welfare representatives to ensure the child’s safety.
Officials later completed legal formalities before handing Sayedul over to his family at a police station. His parents then took him back to their village home, where relatives were waiting to welcome him.
When asked how he felt after meeting his parents again, Sayedul responded with a single word: “Good.”
The story has since drawn widespread attention online as a powerful example of how social media can help reconnect lost families.
