PM Tarique Rahman Urges Japan to Recruit More Skilled Bangladeshi Workers

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on Japan to recruit more skilled Bangladeshi workers and expand cooperation in human resource development, skills training and investment during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister's Special Advisor Uno Yoshimasa in Dhaka.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Japan while exploring new opportunities for economic and development cooperation.


During the discussions, the prime minister urged Japan to increase the recruitment of qualified Bangladeshi healthcare professionals, agricultural workers and drivers with Japanese language proficiency. He also sought broader collaboration in workforce development and vocational training to enhance employment opportunities for Bangladeshi professionals.


Highlighting Bangladesh's investment potential, Tarique Rahman invited Japanese companies to expand their presence in the country. He said the government would provide full support if Japan establishes another industrial park similar to the existing Japanese economic zone in Araihazar, Narayanganj.

The two sides also discussed measures to boost bilateral trade, strengthen economic ties and deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

Infrastructure development featured prominently in the talks, including preparations for the inauguration of the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 16, the progress of ongoing Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) projects and continued collaboration on transport and aviation initiatives.


Senior Bangladeshi officials, including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and other government advisers, attended the meeting. The Japanese delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, representatives of the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi.

The meeting reaffirmed both countries' commitment to expanding strategic cooperation, increasing investment and creating greater employment and economic opportunities through closer Bangladesh-Japan relations.
