The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that revenue collection in July-August 2025 has increased by 21%. This information was shared in a press release by NBR on Monday, September 22.

The press release stated that in August 2025 alone, NBR’s total revenue collection amounted to 27,174 crore BDT, which is 4,084.5 crore BDT more than the same period last year (23,089.37 crore BDT). This marks a growth rate of 18%.

Moreover, the total revenue collected in July and August 2025 was 54,423 crore BDT. In the same period last year (2024), the revenue collection was 45,005.16 crore BDT, showing a 21% growth in revenue collection during July-August of the current year.

The press release also mentioned that in August of this year, the highest revenue of 11,085 crore BDT was collected from local VAT, which is 33.83% more than last year’s 8,283.15 crore BDT.

Additionally, in the income tax and travel sectors, revenue collection in August amounted to 8,442 crore BDT, which is 1,643 crore BDT more than last year’s 6,798.73 crore BDT, marking a growth rate of 24.17%.

However, revenue collection in the import and export sectors showed a decline. In August, 7,647 crore BDT was collected, which is less than last year’s 8,007.62 crore BDT. NBR explained that due to changes in the economic codes of the 'IBAS Plus Plus' system, some revenue was deposited in September, leading to negative growth in this sector.

NBR further mentioned that to accelerate this positive trend in revenue collection, efforts are being made to broaden the tax base, ensure tax compliance, and strengthen measures against tax evasion.

The press release concluded with a call for taxpayers to contribute to the nation-building process by paying the correct amount of tax on time.
