Tarique Rahman to Visit Bogura After 19 Years

Shibganj Upazila BNP Secretary Advocate Abdul Wahab said Tarique Rahman will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Mahmud Balkhi (R) at Mahasthan while travelling to Rangpur on January 12.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit Bogura on January 11, marking his first trip outside Dhaka since returning to the country after 19 years.

District-level BNP leaders confirmed the matter to media.

According to party sources, Tarique Rahman will stay overnight in Bogura on January 11. The following day, January 12 (Monday), he will take part in a mass prayer at Altafunnesa Playground at 10:00am, seeking eternal peace for the soul of his mother, former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

After the prayer programme, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to travel to Rangpur. On the way, he will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Mahmud Balkhi (R) in Mahasthangarh, Bogura.

Bogura district BNP Vice-President and Sadar Upazila BNP President Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel said the long wait of the people of Bogura is finally coming to an end.

“InshaAllah, after 19 years and 18 days, BNP Acting Chairman and pride of Bogura, Tarique Rahman, will return to Bogura on January 11,” he said.

On January 12, at 10:00am, he will again participate in the mass doa at Altafunnesa Playground for the eternal peace of Begum Khaleda Zia, Rubel added.

Shibganj Upazila BNP Secretary Advocate Abdul Wahab said Tarique Rahman will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Mahmud Balkhi (R) at Mahasthan while travelling to Rangpur on January 12.

“We will welcome him under the leadership of BNP-nominated Bogura-2 (Shibganj) candidate Mir Shahe Alam. Party leaders and activists will then accompany him up to the final boundary of Shibganj Upazila,” he said.

Tarique Rahman is contesting the upcoming national parliamentary election from the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency. Bogura Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Taufiqur Rahman has already declared his nomination paper valid.

“The nomination paper was scrutinised thoroughly and no irregularities were found. Therefore, it has been declared valid,” the returning officer said.
