Trump falls asleep during an event; photo goes viral on social media

The Chronify

Several photos of Donald Trump with his eyes closed during an announcement in the Oval Office of the White House earlier this week have gone viral on social media. The images gave the impression that he had fallen asleep. Critics of Trump have used these photos to question his effectiveness as President.

Last Thursday, Trump attended an announcement at the Oval Office regarding the reduction of prices for popular weight-loss drugs. During the event, he was seen with his eyes closed at times. There were moments when he seemed to struggle to keep his eyes open, and occasionally, he was seen blinking repeatedly.

After the photos of Trump with his eyes closed circulated, criticism quickly began. However, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told CNN in a statement, “The President was not sleeping; rather, he delivered his remarks throughout the event and answered numerous questions from journalists.”

Rogers also stated that during the event, President Trump announced a price reduction for two medications for U.S. citizens. These drugs will help people suffering from diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other conditions. Lowering the prices will save consumers millions of dollars and potentially save countless American lives. Yet, according to Rogers, failing liberal media outlets are not reporting this and are instead spreading baseless stories.

Trump regularly appears in public and participates in long Q&A sessions with journalists. His aides and cabinet members often praise his energy, noting that he constantly stays in touch with them via phone calls and text messages.

The day before Thursday’s event, Trump traveled to Miami, where he delivered a speech on the economy lasting over an hour. He had returned to the U.S. at the end of last month after visiting three countries in Asia.

Trump assumed office for a second term as the oldest president in U.S. history. From the beginning, critics have raised various questions about his health.
