Elon Musk’s Grokipedia is coming to challenge Wikipedia
The Chronify
Elon Musk has announced the creation of a new digital encyclopedia. This open-source knowledge base will be an alternative to the popular Wikipedia, which, in Musk’s words, will be “a more neutral, intelligent, and limitless source of knowledge.”
Posting on the ‘X’ platform, Musk wrote, “Join XAI and help build Grokipedia. It will be a much better knowledge base than Wikipedia, where everyone can contribute.” He claims that this encyclopedia, built on XAI’s chatbot Grok, will provide neutral information without any political bias.
Musk has frequently criticized Wikipedia for being left-leaning and biased. In fact, in 2023, he even offered $10 billion to buy the platform.
Recently, Wikipedia has again come under controversy because its co-founder Larry Sanger has called it a “propaganda machine.” He alleges that comments from conservative and libertarian viewpoints are deliberately censored. Sanger claims that a team of several hundred administrators is blocking opponents of a particular ideology.
In the past, he cited the example of ‘Wiki Scanner,’ revealing that various organizations, including the CIA, secretly edited Wikipedia pages. Amidst this controversy, Musk’s new initiative Grokipedia has sparked interest and discussion as the next major competitor platform in technology and information.
