Invitation from Chinese Communist Party Signals Strengthening Political Ties
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, has been invited to visit China by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This marks another step in the growing political engagement between China and BNP.
The invitation follows a high-level visit to China in June 2025, led by BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. During that trip, the delegation met with key Chinese leaders, including Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sun Weidong, Minister of the International Department of the CCP, Liu Jianchao, and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Li Hongzhong, at the Beijing Great Hall.
Political analysts believe that China is keen on strengthening its ties with BNP, a move that could have significant diplomatic, economic, and geopolitical implications for both countries. The visit by Tarique Rahman is expected to play a crucial role in shaping future engagements between Bangladesh and China.
A senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that China is also in contact with other political parties in Bangladesh and countries like Myanmar, ensuring that its interests remain safeguarded regardless of which party comes to power.
