In a tragic incident on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Kazi Manjur Morshed, also known as Raju, a former organizational secretary of the Mymensingh Metropolitan Awami League, died after jumping from his balcony to avoid arrest by the police.

The incident took place around 8:00 PM in the Baghmara area of Mymensingh city. Police had gone to his residence to arrest him, but upon noticing their presence, Raju reportedly attempted to escape by jumping from the second-floor balcony. He fell, suffering severe head injuries, and was rushed to a private hospital in the Charpara area. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, December 19, at 3:00 PM while still under medical care.

According to Raju's wife, Kazi Asma Haque, her husband had distanced himself from politics for the past 8-10 years and had no pending cases against him. She explained, "Since August 5, he had been living a normal life, far removed from political activities." She further mentioned that the police arrived at their home at around 8:00 PM and, sensing their arrival, Raju attempted to flee by jumping from the balcony. Unfortunately, he was struck by a nearby boundary wall, causing severe injuries to his head and body. Local residents found him lying unconscious and bleeding shortly afterward and alerted his family.

Mymensingh's Additional Police Superintendent (Administration), Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed the police operation but stated that the police had not been able to make contact with Raju due to the locked gate and left the scene. He expressed his condolences upon learning of the death.

This incident has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Raju's death, and investigations are ongoing.
