Mirza Abbas Declares Annual Income of Tk 9 Crore, Assets Worth Over Tk 75 Crore

BNP leader’s affidavit reveals financial details, including liabilities and ongoing legal cases.
Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has disclosed an annual income of over Tk 9 crore and total assets worth over Tk 75 crore in his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission for the upcoming February polls. Abbas is contesting the Dhaka-8 constituency as the BNP's candidate.
According to the affidavit, Mirza Abbas has liabilities totaling over Tk 23.75 crore, while his wife, Afroza Abbas, President of Mohila Dal, has liabilities amounting to Tk 1.27 crore. The couple previously contested the 2018 elections, which saw the Awami League win amidst allegations of ballot stuffing.
The affidavit also reveals that Mirza Abbas is currently facing 15 ongoing cases, with seven cases stayed and 10 either acquitted or withdrawn. One of these cases, filed by the ACC, alleges the couple acquired illegal assets with the help of Mirza Abbas.
In terms of assets, Mirza Abbas holds Tk 2.51 crore in cash, USD 102,875 in foreign currency, and shares in Dhaka Bank worth Tk 58 crore. His immovable properties are valued at over Tk 3.75 crore, while his wife's movable assets total Tk 33.14 crore.
Regarding income sources, Abbas earns Tk 3.04 crore from property rentals, Tk 4.93 crore from investments, and Tk 1.29 crore from fixed deposits and bank profits. Afroza's income includes Tk 4.37 lakh from bank profits and Tk 40 lakh from vehicle sales.
