Tarique Rahman Declares Annual Income of Less Than Tk 7 Lakh, Assets Worth Tk 1.97 Crore

BNP Acting Chairman lists his financial details in an affidavit for the 13th parliamentary election.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has declared an annual income of Tk 6,76,353, which is derived from shares, savings certificates, bonds, and bank deposits, according to an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission (EC) for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election. Tarique has also reported total assets amounting to Tk 1.97 crore.
His affidavit reveals that Tarique has Tk 31,58,428 in cash and bank deposits, while his wife holds Tk 66,54,747 in cash and bank balances. Additionally, Tarique has fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) worth Tk 90,24,307, with an extra Tk 35 lakh in FDRs in his wife’s name.
Tarique, aged over 57, is a politician with an HSC-level academic qualification and is contesting from Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies. The affidavit also mentions that he has been acquitted, discharged, or had cases dismissed in all 77 previous cases filed against him. For the FY26 tax year, Tarique paid Tk 1,01,453 in income tax, while his wife paid Tk 5,57,713.
Candidates are required to submit detailed affidavits under electoral law, and the EC has stated that legal action may be taken if any false information is found. With over 2,500 nomination papers submitted for the 13th national election, the BNP alone has fielded 331 candidates.
The final list of candidates will be published on 20 January, with electoral symbols assigned the following day. Voting, alongside a referendum, is scheduled for 12 February.
