ISPR chief claims India’s allegations against Pakistan lack evidence, warns against politicisation of military institutions

Pakistan’s military has once again launched a strong verbal attack against India, accusing its neighbour of being the “biggest terrorist” in the region amid ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries. The remarks were made by Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during a press conference held on Thursday marking one year of what Pakistan refers to as “Marka-e-Haq” or the “Battle of Truth.”

Speaking alongside senior officials from the Pakistan Navy and Air Force, the ISPR chief criticised India’s political and military leadership and rejected allegations linking Pakistan to militant activities in India. He claimed that New Delhi had repeatedly attempted to portray Pakistan as a source of terrorism without presenting credible evidence.

Referring to the April 2025 Pahalgam attack and the military tensions that followed between the two countries, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry questioned India’s accusations and argued that Islamabad’s position had gained wider international understanding over the past year. He stated that no convincing proof had been presented connecting Pakistan to the incident.

During the briefing, the ISPR chief alleged that India’s military establishment had become increasingly politicised, while political leadership had adopted what he described as a militarised approach. According to him, such developments could create instability in the region and negatively affect long-term peace efforts.

He also accused India of suppressing minorities and people in Kashmir, claiming that internal political challenges were being used to justify allegations against Pakistan. On the issue of Kashmir, he reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing position that the territory remains an internationally recognised disputed region rather than an internal matter of India.

The Pakistani military spokesperson further alleged that India was involved in supporting militant activities inside Pakistan and claimed that regional security challenges had intensified following the events of last year. He also referred to Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations conducted near the Afghan border, saying those measures had helped reduce attacks in the country.

In addition, the ISPR chief criticised sections of the Indian media, accusing them of spreading misinformation and engaging in what he described as “information warfare” during periods of heightened conflict.

The latest remarks come at a time when relations between India and Pakistan remain strained over security, border issues and regional influence. Although direct military confrontation between the two sides has eased since last year’s tensions, diplomatic relations continue to face significant challenges.

Neither the Indian government nor Indian military officials immediately responded publicly to the latest comments made during the ISPR briefing. However, analysts believe the exchange of accusations reflects the fragile nature of relations between the two neighbouring countries, where political rhetoric and security concerns continue to shape regional dynamics.
