Unusual mid-taxi incident triggers security response; no injuries reported as investigation begins

A startling incident occurred at Chennai International Airport on Sunday (May 3), when a passenger jumped out of an aircraft before it had fully come to a stop. The flight had arrived from Sharjah and was moving along a taxiway after landing when the event took place.

According to airport officials, the aircraft had safely landed and exited the main runway and was taxiing at a slow speed when the passenger unexpectedly opened the door and leapt out. The sudden action caused panic among other passengers and prompted an immediate response from airport security personnel.

A senior official at the airport confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft was moving slowly at the time. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or damage to the aircraft. Authorities also clarified that the incident did not occur on the main runway, which helped prevent a more serious situation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the passenger may have been unwell during the flight. Officials indicated that he had complained of nausea and is believed to have vomited more than once while onboard, suggesting that his physical condition may have contributed to his behavior.

Following the incident, the pilot promptly alerted ground control and security teams. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force responded quickly, taking the individual into custody and ensuring that he received necessary medical attention. He was later handed over to local police for further investigation.

The incident caused a brief disruption in airport operations. As a precautionary measure, the main runway was temporarily closed, and flight operations were shifted to a secondary runway until normal services resumed.

Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the passenger, though reports suggest he may be from the Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu. An investigation is currently underway to determine how the passenger managed to open the aircraft door and the circumstances that led to such a risky act.

Aviation authorities are expected to review safety procedures following the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
