Energy division confirms no adjustment in diesel, petrol, octane, and kerosene prices for the upcoming month
The government has announced that fuel oil prices will remain unchanged for the month of May, continuing the rates set in April. The decision was confirmed through a notification issued on April 30 by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
According to the official statement, the existing prices of diesel, kerosene, octane, and petrol will remain effective from May 1. This means consumers will continue to pay Tk115 per litre for diesel, Tk130 for kerosene, Tk135 for petrol, and Tk140 for octane.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division stated that the current pricing structure was originally determined on April 18 following a proposal submitted by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). After reviewing market conditions and internal assessments, the authorities decided to maintain the same rates for the upcoming month without any revisions.
Officials indicated that the decision reflects an effort to ensure price stability in the domestic fuel market, particularly amid ongoing fluctuations in global energy prices. By keeping fuel costs steady, the government aims to avoid additional pressure on transportation, production, and overall living expenses.
Fuel prices play a critical role in the country’s economy, directly influencing transportation costs, industrial operations, and the prices of essential goods. Any increase or decrease in fuel rates often has a ripple effect across multiple sectors, affecting both businesses and consumers.
Industry analysts believe that maintaining stable fuel prices may provide short-term relief to consumers and businesses, especially in a period marked by economic adjustments and inflationary pressures. However, they also note that long-term pricing decisions will likely depend on global oil market trends and exchange rate movements.
The government has been following a monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism in recent times, allowing for periodic reviews based on international market conditions. Despite this flexible approach, authorities have opted for stability this month, signaling a cautious stance in managing energy costs.
With no changes announced for May, consumers and businesses can expect fuel expenses to remain consistent, at least in the short term, as the government continues to monitor both domestic and global energy developments.
