Over 500 high-capacity cameras to be installed for real-time monitoring and crime prevention
Dhaka Metropolitan Police has launched a large-scale surveillance initiative in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka, aiming to improve public safety and strengthen crime prevention measures.
As part of the project, more than 500 high-capacity CCTV cameras will be installed across key locations in Mohammadpur. The system is designed to enhance real-time monitoring, improve situational awareness, and support faster response to incidents such as theft and mugging.
Police officials said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize urban policing through technology. The surveillance network will be connected to control rooms, allowing law enforcement teams to track suspicious activity more efficiently and coordinate rapid response operations when needed.
Authorities believe that the increased camera coverage will act as a strong deterrent against street crime while also assisting in investigations by providing clearer evidence of criminal activity.
Residents in the area have welcomed the move, expressing hope that enhanced surveillance will make the neighbourhood safer, especially during night hours and in high-traffic zones.
Officials added that the system will be expanded gradually to other crime-prone areas of the city if the pilot phase in Mohammadpur proves successful.
