Prime Minister set to inaugurate development projects, launch a nationwide tree plantation campaign, attend public events, and meet local stakeholders during a daylong visit to Cox’s Bazar district.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to undertake a daylong official visit to Cox’s Bazar on June 13, where he will participate in a series of development, environmental, and public engagement programmes across several upazilas of the district.
According to the official itinerary released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Tarique Rahman is expected to arrive in Cox’s Bazar by air at 10:00am and return to Dhaka later the same night at 10:00pm after completing a packed schedule of events.
The visit will begin with a trip to Pmkhali Union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar, where the Prime Minister will inaugurate the re-excavation of Patli Khal, a historic canal originally developed under the initiative of former President Ziaur Rahman. The project is expected to improve water management, drainage facilities, and agricultural productivity in the surrounding areas.
Following the inauguration ceremony, Tarique Rahman will address a roadside public gathering, where he is expected to outline the government’s commitment to local development and infrastructure improvement.
The Prime Minister will later travel to Dulahazara Safari Park in Chakaria, where he will formally launch a nationwide afforestation programme aimed at planting 250 million trees across the country. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader environmental strategy to combat climate change, expand green coverage, and promote ecological sustainability. After inaugurating the programme, he will tour the safari park facilities.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to pay tribute to Md Wasim Akram, who was killed during the July Uprising of 2024. He will visit the family of the deceased in Pekua and offer condolences.
Development projects will feature prominently throughout the tour. The Prime Minister will attend foundation stone-laying ceremonies for the newly established Matamuhuri Upazila and Pekua Municipality, marking significant administrative and infrastructure milestones for the region. He will also participate in prayer sessions and interact with local residents during the events.
In the afternoon, Tarique Rahman will address a public rally in Chakaria Municipality, where a large gathering of party leaders, supporters, and residents is expected. The rally is likely to focus on government achievements, regional development plans, and future policy priorities.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will inspect the Marine Drive road and Cox’s Bazar sea beach, two key landmarks that play an important role in the country’s tourism sector and coastal development efforts.
The visit will conclude with an exchange-of-views meeting with prominent local citizens, business leaders, professionals, and community representatives at a hotel in Kolatoli. The discussion is expected to focus on regional development, investment opportunities, tourism, and public welfare issues.
Ahead of the high-profile visit, authorities have strengthened security arrangements across Cox’s Bazar. Law enforcement agencies, district administration officials, and local stakeholders have been coordinating extensive preparations to ensure the smooth execution of the Prime Minister’s programme.
The visit is being viewed as an important opportunity to advance development initiatives, engage directly with local communities, and reinforce the government’s focus on infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and regional growth in one of Bangladesh’s most strategically significant districts.
