TikTok will not allow the spread of misinformation during the upcoming national elections and will work in coordination with the Election Commission. This was stated by Ferdous Muttakim, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia.

He added that TikTok will fully cooperate with the Election Commission (EC) in preventing misinformation ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Speaking to reporters after a two-hour meeting that began at 3 p.m. on Wednesday (26 November) at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, he shared the details of their discussions. Senior officials, including the Chief Election Commissioner, were present at the meeting.

Ferdous Muttakim said, “Our main objective was to assure the Bangladesh Election Commission that the TikTok platform will not be used in any way to spread election-related misleading information, misinformation, or manipulation. We discussed our stance, preparedness, and action plans in detail.”

He added, “A multinational team of experts presented how TikTok is ensuring election-related integrity in the Bangladesh context. We informed the Election Commission that we are fully committed to cooperating so the platform’s use does not disrupt the electoral process in any way.”

According to Muttakim, TikTok has its own multilayered safety mechanisms that work year-round to prevent harmful content such as misinformation, disinformation, and impersonation. “During elections, we increase our monitoring to ensure that no group can attempt to manipulate or influence the process,” he said.
