Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned a violent attack during an election manifesto reading in Sherpur that claimed the life of a local Jamaat leader. The party demanded immediate arrests and called for stronger election-time security.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has condemned the attack that occurred during an election manifesto reading programme in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur, which resulted in the death of Maulana Rezaul Karim, secretary of the Shibpur Upazila Jamaat.
In a statement, Parwar described the incident as a grave act of violence and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, calling for exemplary punishment to ensure justice.
He sharply criticized the failure of law enforcement agencies to ensure proper security at the event and to safeguard the injured following the attack. Parwar urged the Election Commission to take urgent and effective measures to guarantee security and create a violence-free environment ahead of the upcoming elections.
Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family, he said, “Karim’s martyrdom will not be in vain,” and reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to continuing its struggle against terrorism, oppression and political violence.
