Weather Office Issues New Cold Wave Warning for Bangladesh
Cold Wave Intensifying Again, Temperatures Expected to Drop Further
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued another weather warning, forecasting an intensification of the cold wave in various regions of the country. While the intensity of winter had slightly eased, the department has predicted a drop in temperatures, especially in the northern and western parts of the country, starting Thursday (January 15, 2026). This is expected to worsen the cold conditions in these areas.
According to the forecast, a cold wave is typically declared when the minimum temperature in a region drops to between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius. Recently, the lowest temperature in Panchagarh’s Tentulia reached 8 degrees Celsius, signaling the onset of colder weather.
The department has indicated that the cold wave could last until Saturday, with temperatures potentially dropping by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures are expected to rise gradually afterward.
Experts have raised concerns over the unusual fluctuations in temperatures, which may be linked to climate change. The erratic shifts in cold waves, combined with inconsistent rainfall and dry spells, suggest changes in the natural weather cycle.
Health experts warn that sudden drops in temperature can be especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions. They advise taking necessary precautions to stay warm and following health guidelines during this period.
