Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets New Domestic Opening-Day Record
Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has opened with a record $168 million in domestic ticket sales, surpassing Avengers: Endgame to claim the biggest opening day ever for a US theatrical release.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made box-office history, earning an estimated $168 million in domestic ticket sales on its opening day and surpassing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame.
The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, reached the milestone after opening in US theaters on July 31. The reported $168 million total puts the film approximately $11 million ahead of Avengers: Endgame, which earned $157 million on its first day in 2019.
The performance gives Spider-Man: Brand New Day the biggest domestic opening day in box-office history, marking another major milestone for Marvel’s long-running superhero franchise.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and features Holland returning as Spider-Man. The strong opening had been widely anticipated, with early industry projections suggesting that the movie could become one of the year's biggest theatrical releases.
Preview screenings had already provided an indication of the film’s potential. Spider-Man: Brand New Day reportedly generated $72 million from preview showings, exceeding the $60 million preview-day figure recorded by Avengers: Endgame.
Sony is now reportedly expecting the film to finish its opening weekend with approximately $325 million in domestic revenue. Some industry estimates have placed the potential total even higher, at around $358 million.
If the higher projection is achieved, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would also surpass Avengers: Endgame’s $357 million domestic opening-weekend record. That would give the new Spider-Man film both the biggest opening day and the biggest opening weekend in domestic box-office history.
The film’s early performance comes during an exceptionally strong year for Hollywood blockbusters. Several major releases have generated significant audience interest and crossed major financial milestones in 2026.
Nintendo and Illumination’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie delivered a strong theatrical debut in April before eventually passing the $1 billion mark worldwide. The Michael Jackson biographical film Michael also recorded a major opening and later crossed $1 billion globally.
Toy Story 5 became another major commercial success after recording a worldwide opening of more than $300 million before reaching the $1 billion milestone. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey also exceeded expectations with a global opening of roughly $264 million.
Despite the competition from several high-profile releases, Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be emerging as the dominant box-office performer of the summer.
However, the film still has significant ground to cover before its final commercial performance can be assessed. Its international earnings and subsequent weeks at the box office will determine whether it can maintain its momentum and reach the billion-dollar mark.
The film’s record debut also strengthens Tom Holland’s position as one of the most commercially successful actors associated with the modern superhero genre. His return as Peter Parker has been a major factor in anticipation surrounding the project.
Marvel Studios and Sony will now be watching the film’s second-day and weekend performance closely. Strong audience turnout throughout the opening weekend could establish Spider-Man: Brand New Day as one of the most successful theatrical releases in Marvel history.
For now, the $168 million opening-day figure represents a remarkable achievement. By overtaking Avengers: Endgame, one of the most commercially successful films ever made, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has immediately placed itself among the biggest box-office phenomena in modern cinema.
