What to do if you keep making mistakes
A successful person is not someone who never fails, but someone who learns from every failure. Failure does not discourage them; instead, it motivates them to work anew and try different strategies. Ordinary people, on the other hand, often fail to learn from their mistakes and repeat the same errors over and over.
There is an incident in the Mahabharata related to this. The five Pandava brothers were exiled from the kingdom and were wandering. One day, the eldest brother, Yudhishthira, felt thirsty. The youngest brother went to fetch water for him. After much searching, he found a lake. As he approached to fill his vessel, a divine voice suddenly spoke: “Stop! Before taking the water, you must answer a question. If you fail to answer, you will die.”
The question was: “What is the greatest truth of life?” The youngest brother could not answer and immediately died. One by one, the fourth, third, and second brothers also arrived, and, unable to answer, they too fell lifeless.
Finally, Yudhishthira came and saw his four brothers dead by the lakeside. The divine voice asked him the same question. Yudhishthira replied,
"The greatest truth in human life is that humans never want to learn."
Yudhishthira’s answer was correct. The divine voice said, “What you have said is true. Fill your vessel with water and sprinkle it on your brothers; they will come back to life.”
This story illustrates that the main reason for ordinary human suffering is the refusal to learn from mistakes. People rarely change their perspective or correct the flaws in their habits or strategies that lead to repeated failures.
Most people’s lives follow a pattern of repeating the same mistakes. For example, in daily life, a husband and wife may quarrel repeatedly over the same issues, following the same pattern.
A student may perform poorly in exams due to inattention, wasting time, or repeating specific mistakes. Even if they want better results, they fail to correct these errors.
Someone may consistently miss deadlines, facing repeated embarrassment, yet they do not address the reasons behind their delays.
Another person may fall in love repeatedly, experiencing heartbreak each time, yet they are attracted to the same type of person, repeating the same suffering.
A wise person, however, learns from mistakes. They analyze the reasons behind failures, understand the cause, and work to eliminate the problem at its root. Meditation or deep contemplation is an excellent way to achieve this. Through focused meditation, one can understand their mistakes, correct them, and break free from the cycle of repeating errors.
