Second-grade student Samina Noor Taj has brought international recognition to Bangladesh by securing first place in the Asian round of the HIPPO International English Olympiad, earning a place in the global finals to be held in Italy later this year.

Bangladesh has achieved another milestone in international academic competition as second-grade student Samina Noor Taj secured first place in the Asian round of the HIPPO International English Olympiad, becoming one of the country's youngest students to earn continental recognition in English language excellence.

The outstanding achievement has brought pride to her school, family and local community in Gazipur, where she was recently honored at a special reception celebrating her success.

A felicitation ceremony was held on Tuesday morning at Afzauddin Memorial School and College, where teachers, students, parents and well-wishers gathered to congratulate the young achiever for representing Bangladesh with distinction on the international stage.

According to school authorities, Samina Noor Taj is the daughter of Sanowar Hossain from Mesta village in Jamalpur. She enrolled in the nursery section of Afzauddin Memorial School and College on 1 June 2023 and has consistently demonstrated exceptional academic ability alongside active participation in educational and cultural competitions.

Her journey to becoming Asia's top performer involved several highly competitive qualifying rounds. She first participated in the national selection process on 25 April at Smart Innovation School in Dhaka, where she successfully advanced to the next stage after an impressive performance.

Samina then competed in the second national qualifying round held on 23 May at Heritage School in Narayanganj. She secured second place nationwide, earning qualification for the Asian continental finals of the prestigious English Olympiad.

Representing Bangladesh at the continental competition held in Thailand, Samina delivered another remarkable performance by finishing first among participants from across Asia, securing the championship title and earning widespread appreciation for her achievement.

Her victory has now qualified her for the Universal Round, the global final of the HIPPO International English Olympiad, where she will compete against outstanding students from countries around the world.

The international finals are scheduled to take place in Italy from 28 September to 3 October, providing Samina with an opportunity to represent Bangladesh on one of the world's largest English language competition platforms.

School officials described her success as the result of dedication, disciplined preparation and strong family support. Teachers said Samina has consistently displayed remarkable enthusiasm for learning and has excelled in both academic and extracurricular activities since joining the institution.

The school believes her achievement will inspire many young learners across Bangladesh to participate in international educational competitions and pursue excellence in language education from an early age.

Chairman of Afzauddin Memorial School and College, Md Jalil Uddin, praised the student's accomplishment, describing it as a source of pride not only for the institution but also for Gazipur and the entire country.

He said Samina's success demonstrates the growing potential of Bangladeshi students to compete confidently on the global stage when provided with quality education, proper guidance and opportunities to showcase their talents.

Education experts have welcomed the achievement, noting that international competitions such as the HIPPO English Olympiad help develop communication skills, critical thinking and cross-cultural understanding among young learners while encouraging academic excellence.

As preparations begin for the world finals in Italy, Samina Noor Taj will carry the hopes of Bangladesh as she competes against some of the world's brightest young English learners. Her remarkable journey from a classroom in Gazipur to becoming Asia's top performer reflects the growing presence of Bangladeshi students in international academic competitions and serves as an inspiration for the country's next generation of learners.
