Dipjol calls for the withdrawal of harassment cases against artists
Artist Association Secretary General Monwar Hossain Dipjol has taken a strong stance, protesting the continuous harassment cases filed against performing artists.
On Monday (17 November), in a post on his verified Facebook account, Monwar Hossain Dipjol, Secretary General of the Artist Association, called for an end to false cases and harassment against performing artists. He emphasized that ensuring the safety and dignity of artists is essential for the progress of the industry.
Recently, actress Mehjabin Chowdhury and her 19-year-old younger brother appeared in court on Sunday (16 November) to seek bail in a case filed against them. Mehjabin stated that an unknown person filed the case in March 2025, but she had received no information about it over the past nine months. According to her, the complainant failed to provide the police with her correct phone number, verified address, or any concrete evidence. The complainant could not prove any business dealings with her or the alleged payment of 2.7 million taka. Fans have speculated that the case was filed with the intention of harassment.
Additionally, a recent case involved a woman, identifying herself as a fan of Dipjol, whose husband filed an attempted murder complaint against him in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka. Dipjol and his assistant Faisal were named as accused.
The complaint alleges that on 8 July, Dipjol and Faisal assaulted the woman and attempted to throw acid at her. The court has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter.
Dipjol’s family stated that these cases are baseless and filed solely to harass him. At the time of the alleged incidents, Dipjol was abroad for medical treatment and continues to be under doctor’s care due to diabetes, heart problems, and eye issues. They stressed that such harassment causes mental distress and is unacceptable, not just for him but for the entire artist community. They urged that no artist should face harassment through baseless allegations.
