Government Spent 4211 Crore on 'Mujib Bhai' Movie Through CRI

A significant amount of state funds were spent on the production of the film "Mujib Bhai," with detailed financial misuse outlined in a recent white paper.
The government has spent a staggering 4211 crore Bangladeshi Taka through the Central Research Institute (CRI) on the production of the film Mujib Bhai, highlighting concerns of financial mismanagement under the current administration. This expenditure has raised serious questions about the use of state funds, particularly in the context of national development priorities.
According to a white paper released on January 8, 2026, which outlines financial irregularities within various state institutions, substantial amounts of money have been diverted towards promoting political agendas and enhancing the ruling party’s image. The Mujib Bhai film, part of a broader political project, has attracted significant attention for its link to government-backed propaganda efforts, which are seen as diverting resources from critical national needs.
The report also reveals that a total of 4211 crore was spent on the film under the banner of digital transformation. Critics argue that this funding should have been used to address structural issues within the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. Additionally, the Khoka film project was allocated 16 crore, further underscoring concerns about how public funds are being used to enhance the political narrative rather than resolving pressing infrastructural challenges.
The white paper also criticized the establishment of several high-tech parks and IT training centers across the country without any solid demand or planning, leading to the misallocation of taxpayer money. Furthermore, many projects under the ICT sector lacked qualified trainers or beneficiaries, with significant discrepancies between project plans and outcomes, resulting in underperformance and waste.
While these revelations paint a troubling picture of government spending, experts suggest that transparency and accountability will only be achieved if there is strong political will and institutional reforms. The report calls for comprehensive audits and enhanced monitoring to prevent such misuse in the future, although the lack of political resolve raises concerns about whether this report will meet the same fate as past investigations — locked away in bureaucratic archives without real action.
