Tamil Nadu police accuse Thalapathy Vijay of violating permission rules during a large campaign roadshow in Chennai ahead of state elections.

A police case has been filed against popular Tamil actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay following allegations that he violated permission rules during a campaign roadshow in Chennai ahead of the Tamil Nadu legislative elections.

According to Chennai police, Vijay who leads the political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam was granted permission to hold a public event at a designated location. However, authorities claim that he instead led a large-scale procession through multiple busy areas, including T. Nagar, Thousand Lights, and Egmore, drawing massive crowds of supporters.

The sudden influx of people reportedly caused severe traffic congestion across key roads in the city, disrupting daily movement and prompting concerns from local authorities. Officials stated that the case was registered based on a complaint from a monitoring squad linked to the Election Commission.

The complaint has been filed under Section 223 of the Indian Nyaya Sanhita, which relates to the alleged violation of official government orders. Several other leaders from Vijay’s party have also been named in the case.

Neither Vijay nor representatives of his party have issued an official response so far regarding the allegations.

The incident comes at a politically sensitive time, with the Tamil Nadu assembly elections scheduled for April 23. Analysts suggest that the controversy could influence the campaign atmosphere as political tensions rise in the final days leading up to the vote.
