After the successful return of funds held in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh's Religious Affairs Adviser confirmed the transfer of 37.94 crore BDT to 990 Hajj agencies.
Dhaka, Bangladesh – In a significant development for Bangladesh's Hajj agencies, 37.94 crore BDT has been returned from Saudi Arabia to 990 Hajj agencies. The unspent funds, amounting to 125,38,468 Saudi Riyals, had been held in the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s Masar Nusuk platform.
Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain confirmed this in a press briefing on Monday, where he shared that the funds had been transferred from the platform to the Bangladesh Hajj Office's account in a Saudi Franci bank.
The funds, which had been deposited by the agencies over the years for Hajj purposes, were unspent. Each agency received varying amounts, with the highest refund being 45 lakh BDT and the lowest being 2 BDT.
"Three agencies did not have any unspent funds, but 831 agencies will have their funds transferred to their bank accounts. For the remaining 156 agencies, we are awaiting their bank details," said Dr. Hossain.
The return of the funds is seen as a positive step towards improving Hajj management in Bangladesh. The Religious Affairs Ministry worked closely with the Saudi government to ensure the funds were refunded, making it a landmark achievement in the country’s Hajj operations.
