Bangladesh Passport Grants Access to 35 Visa-Friendly Destinations in 2026, Ranks 97th Globally

Bangladesh passport holders can travel to 35 destinations worldwide in 2026 through visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival (VOA) facilities or Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), according to the latest edition of the Henley Passport Index.

The updated ranking places Bangladesh in 97th position globally, reflecting the number of countries and territories that Bangladeshi citizens can visit without obtaining a traditional visa before departure. The latest figures provide travelers with a range of accessible international destinations, particularly for tourism, business trips and family visits.

The list of accessible destinations spans multiple regions, including Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, giving Bangladeshi travelers a wider selection of holiday options. Popular island destinations such as the Maldives remain among the preferred choices for vacationers, while several African nations continue to offer visa-on-arrival facilities that simplify travel procedures.


Electronic Travel Authorisation has also become an increasingly popular entry system among several countries. Unlike conventional visas, ETA allows eligible travelers to receive digital travel approval before departure through an online application process, making international travel faster and more convenient.

The Henley Passport Index is one of the world's most closely watched passport rankings and is compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) alongside independent research. The index evaluates passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without securing a traditional visa in advance.

According to Henley & Partners, passport strength is determined by a combination of diplomatic relations, international cooperation, bilateral agreements, border security policies and broader geopolitical developments. Countries that maintain stronger diplomatic ties generally provide their citizens with greater global mobility through reciprocal travel agreements.


While Bangladesh currently provides access to 35 destinations under simplified entry arrangements, the report notes that international mobility remains highly uneven across the world. Citizens of many developed countries continue to enjoy substantially greater travel freedom compared with those from developing economies.


The 2026 rankings highlight the widening gap between the world's strongest and weakest passports. Singapore retained its position as the world's most powerful passport, allowing its citizens to travel to 192 destinations without requiring a traditional visa before departure.


The United Arab Emirates continued its remarkable rise in the global rankings, sharing second place alongside Japan and South Korea. According to the index, the UAE has recorded one of the most significant improvements ever measured, expanding its global travel access by 153 destinations over the past two decades through extensive diplomatic engagement and international partnerships.


Travel industry analysts say easier visa policies play a vital role in encouraging tourism, promoting business exchanges and strengthening cultural connections between countries. Simplified immigration procedures also support educational cooperation, investment opportunities and people-to-people relationships by reducing administrative barriers for international travelers.

For Bangladeshi tourists planning overseas holidays, particularly during the summer travel season, destinations offering visa-free entry or visas upon arrival provide greater flexibility and often reduce both travel costs and processing time. Several island nations, coastal destinations and regional tourism hubs continue to attract Bangladeshi visitors because of their relatively straightforward immigration requirements.


Despite these improvements, travel experts advise passengers to verify the latest immigration regulations before making travel arrangements. Entry policies may change without prior notice, and travelers should confirm passport validity requirements, permitted duration of stay, return ticket conditions, accommodation reservations, financial documentation and any health-related requirements with the relevant embassy or immigration authority.


Industry observers also point out that countries are increasingly adopting digital immigration systems, replacing traditional paper-based visa procedures with online authorization platforms. These systems are intended to improve border management while offering travelers a faster and more efficient application process.
