Bangladesh signs a landmark agreement with China to produce UAVs, marking a new chapter in defense and technology.
In a significant step towards enhancing its defense capabilities, Bangladesh is entering the drone manufacturing sector with the help of China. A government-to-government (G2G) agreement was signed between the Bangladesh Air Force and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation International (CETC) to establish a UAV manufacturing and assembly plant. The agreement was signed on January 27, 2026, at the Air Force Headquarters in Dhaka.
The ceremony was attended by Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, alongside Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, and senior officials from both countries. This partnership will see the creation of an advanced UAV production and assembly center in Bangladesh, with a focus on transferring technology and boosting local capabilities.
The agreement includes technology transfer, industrial development, and long-term collaboration in UAV production. Through this initiative, Bangladesh will gain the ability to manufacture medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) drones and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAVs. Additionally, the project will enable the Air Force to develop its own designs for UAVs, providing a foundation for self-reliance in drone manufacturing.
This joint project will not only strengthen Bangladesh’s military capabilities but also contribute to humanitarian assistance and disaster management. The establishment of this plant will help meet both national and international demand for drones, offering the country full independence in drone production.
The program will also contribute to technological advancement by creating specialized training, fostering knowledge exchange, and developing skilled aerospace professionals in Bangladesh.
