Bangladeshi Students Remembered in Paris Protest Over Tragic Killings in the United States

A solemn gathering was held in Paris to honor two Bangladeshi students who were recently killed in a tragic incident in the United States. The event, organized by the “Bangladeshi Students Forum, France,” took place on Wednesday (April 29) at the historic Place de la République, where students, community members, and diaspora leaders came together to express grief, solidarity, and demand justice.

The victims, identified as Jamil Limon and Nahida Brishti, were PhD students at the University of South Florida. Their untimely deaths have caused widespread shock and concern among Bangladeshi students studying abroad, particularly regarding safety and security in foreign educational institutions.
 

The program began with a remembrance session, followed by a human chain and protest rally. Participants expressed deep condolences to the grieving families and emphasized the need for a transparent and thorough investigation into the killings. They also called on authorities in the United States to ensure swift justice and stronger protective measures for international students.

Students from several leading French universities, including Paris-Saclay University, Sciences Po, Sorbonne University, École Polytechnique, and Université Paris Cité, actively joined the demonstration. Members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in France also attended in solidarity, highlighting growing concern over the safety of Bangladeshi nationals studying overseas.
 

Speakers at the event included Saiful Alam Sabuj, President of the organization, spokesperson Al Farabi Chowdhury, Farzin Fiona, and Mizanur Rahman, General Secretary of Dhaka Division Association. They stressed the importance of unity among Bangladeshi students worldwide and urged global institutions to prioritize student safety.
 

Speakers strongly condemned the killings and emphasized that such incidents should not be ignored. They called for coordinated international efforts to ensure that students can pursue higher education abroad without fear or insecurity.

The event concluded with a one-minute silence in memory of the deceased students, followed by prayers for the peace of their souls.
