The BBC has finally expressed regret after facing controversy over a six-part documentary centered on Donald Trump.

The documentary allegedly edited Trump’s remarks in a way that made it seem as though he was inciting violence. After this accusation surfaced, the issue drew widespread attention. Although the British broadcaster has apologized in a letter, it has rejected demands for compensation.

Trump’s legal team had warned that legal action would be taken against the BBC for defamatory portrayal, even mentioning a possible $1 billion lawsuit. They claimed that Trump’s words were “wrongfully cut and manipulated” in the documentary in a way that could cause misunderstanding.

BBC chairman Samir Shah stated that they sent an official letter to the White House, clarifying that the editing of Trump’s remarks was inappropriate and that the BBC apologizes for it. The organization also announced that the documentary will no longer be aired on any platform.

However, the BBC rejected compensation claims regarding defamation, saying, “We found no intentional wrongdoing aimed at damaging Trump’s reputation.”

In connection with the incident, BBC Director-General Tim Davie and head of news Deborah Turness have resigned. Turness said, “News and current affairs were my responsibility, so I must take responsibility for this mistake.”
