Following a decisive victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is reportedly planning to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the upcoming swearing-in event of party chairman Tarek Rahman.

After securing a landslide win in the 13th national parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is preparing for the swearing-in of its chairman, Tarek Rahman. According to senior party officials, BNP is considering extending an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the ceremony.

Humayun Kabir, foreign affairs advisor to Tarek Rahman, confirmed the plan in an interview with Indian news outlet WION, describing the move as a goodwill gesture aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. He emphasized that the region holds strategic importance for BNP’s foreign policy, and the invitation reflects the party’s intention to foster regional cooperation and diplomatic engagement.

Kabir also highlighted BNP’s broader diplomatic goals, including balanced regional collaboration and active participation in multilateral organizations such as SAARC and BIMSTEC. He described the invitation as a symbolic step toward improved relations, following years of tense interactions under the previous caretaker and Awami League governments.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place in the coming days, marking Tarek Rahman’s assumption of the Prime Minister role after nearly two decades in exile. Modi has reportedly congratulated Rahman over the phone, praising BNP’s electoral victory and expressing support for a democratic and progressive Bangladesh.
