China Accused of Planning Covert Arms Supply to Iran Amid Ceasefire Talks

US media reports suggest Beijing may be preparing to send air defense systems to Tehran, even as diplomatic efforts continue between the United States and Iran.
China is reportedly preparing to secretly supply new air defense systems to Iran in the coming weeks, according to a report by US media outlet CNN, citing sources familiar with recent intelligence findings.
The report, published on Friday (April 10), claims that US intelligence assessments indicate Beijing could be moving forward with plans to assist Tehran militarily during the ongoing two-week ceasefire with Washington.
Sources cited in the report suggest that China may attempt to conceal the origin of the weapons by routing shipments through a third country, raising concerns over potential escalation in regional tensions.
Intelligence officials also believe that Iran may be using the ceasefire period to rebuild and strengthen certain military capabilities, possibly with support from key international partners.
According to the report, the potential supply could include shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile systems designed to enhance Iran’s air defense capacity.
However, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington has strongly denied the allegations, stating that China has not provided weapons to any party involved in the conflict. The spokesperson described the claims as false and urged the United States to refrain from making what it called baseless accusations and exaggerated narratives.
The spokesperson further emphasized China’s commitment to international responsibility and called on all parties to contribute constructively toward de-escalating tensions.
Meanwhile, high-level talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place on Saturday (April 11) in Islamabad, Pakistan, aimed at advancing efforts toward a permanent peace agreement.
