Elon Musk Becomes the First Person to Reach $800 Billion After SpaceX Acquires xAI

The Chronify

SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI pushes Elon Musk’s net worth to an unprecedented $800 billion, setting new records.

Elon Musk has achieved an extraordinary financial milestone, becoming the first person in history to surpass a net worth of $800 billion after his rocket company, SpaceX, acquired his artificial intelligence and social media company, xAI. The merger, which valued the combined entity at a staggering $1.25 trillion, increased Musk's fortune by $84 billion, bringing his total net worth to a record $852 billion, according to Forbes.

Before the acquisition, Musk owned a 42% stake in SpaceX, valued at approximately $336 billion, and a 49% stake in xAI, worth about $122 billion. Following the merger, which boosted SpaceX’s valuation to $1 trillion and xAI’s valuation to $250 billion, Musk’s share in the combined company is now worth $542 billion.

SpaceX is now Musk’s most valuable asset, with the company eclipsing other holdings, including his 12% stake in Tesla, which is worth an estimated $178 billion, along with stock options worth $124 billion. Additionally, Tesla’s shareholders recently approved a performance-based compensation package that could potentially add up to $1 trillion to Musk’s wealth, provided the company meets ambitious market performance targets.

This is the second merger involving Musk’s companies in less than a year. Earlier, in March 2025, Musk announced the merger of xAI and his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which combined were valued at $113 billion.

Musk’s wealth journey has been marked by unprecedented milestones, with his net worth surpassing $500 billion in October, $600 billion in December, and $700 billion shortly after, thanks to SpaceX’s rising valuation and the restoration of his Tesla stock options by the Delaware Supreme Court.

Musk is now $578 billion richer than the second-wealthiest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, who holds an estimated $281 billion. With his fortune growing at an astonishing rate, Musk is now on the path to potentially becoming the world’s first trillionaire.
