Tehran signals deep mistrust in US as negotiations stall and regional tensions remain high

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned that war could resume “at any moment,” underscoring growing uncertainty surrounding the ongoing ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

In a statement broadcast on Iranian state television early Sunday, the speaker said Tehran has no trust in Washington, casting doubt on the prospects of extending the current two-week truce.

Speaking to state media, Ghalibaf praised Iran’s military capabilities, claiming that Iranian forces had struck 180 drones and even targeted an advanced F-35 fighter jet during recent confrontations. He described the alleged strike as part of a coordinated operation showcasing Iran’s technological and operational strength.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround diplomatic efforts. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said recent talks with the United States ended without progress, accusing Washington of introducing new and additional demands beyond previously agreed frameworks.

The negotiations, which took place in Islamabad with mediation from Pakistan, lasted around 21 hours but failed to yield a breakthrough. Iranian officials indicated that talks could resume if the opposing side adjusts its position in line with “realities on the ground.”

Regional tensions remain elevated, with reports suggesting that Israeli forces are on high alert amid fears that the ceasefire could collapse.

Iran has stated it agreed to the temporary truce on the condition that hostilities cease across all fronts. It also reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for commercial vessels under certain conditions, reflecting the strategic importance of the waterway to global energy markets.
