Lal Baba hurt after clashes with police during march over alleged blasphemy killing in Bangladesh
A Hindutva leader, Lal Baba, was injured in Kolkata on Tuesday following a baton charge by police during a protest march towards the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. The march was organized by a Hindutva group in response to the killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh, allegedly over accusations of blasphemy.
The protest began at Sealdah with participants chanting religious slogans and carrying tridents and saffron flags. However, when the procession reached Beckbagan, police intervened and attempted to stop the march. Tensions escalated as protesters tried to break through police barricades, leading to violent clashes.
Lal Baba, who was reportedly leading the protest, fell to the ground after being struck during the baton charge. He was later injured and taken to a nearby medical facility. Several other Hindutva leaders involved in the protest were detained by the police. The protest, which sought to address issues of religious violence in Bangladesh, sparked significant confrontation between the protesters and law enforcement
