Luxembourg will recognize the State of Palestine next week.
At next week’s United Nations conference in New York, Luxembourg will join the initiative to recognize the State of Palestine.
The movement to recognize a Palestinian state has gained momentum under the leadership of French President Emmanuel Macron. The backdrop to this push is Israel’s two-year-long assault on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
On Monday, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden told reporters: ‘In recent months, the situation has deteriorated significantly. Countries in Europe and across the world are now showing that a two-state solution remains relevant.
He added, ‘For this reason, the Luxembourg government will join the recognition of the State of Palestine at next week’s conference on the two-state solution.’
In July, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would also soon recognize Palestine. Since then, more than a dozen other Western countries have made similar declarations.
