Several Palestinians killed as Israel presses Gaza attacks amid wider regional war

Israeli strikes in Gaza City killed at least three Palestinians on Thursday, with some local reports putting the toll at four, as the Rafah crossing with Egypt reopened for a small number of wounded patients after nearly three weeks of closure. The deaths were reported in separate attacks in eastern Gaza City, including one in the Zeitoun area.
Local medical officials said two people were killed in a strike in Zeitoun, while another attack on a group of people in eastern Gaza City killed at least one more person and wounded others. A separate wire report, citing local health officials, said four Palestinians were killed in two airstrikes across Gaza City. There was no immediate Israeli comment on the incidents.
The attacks came as the Rafah border crossing reopened on March 19 for limited medical evacuations. The Palestinian Red Crescent said eight Palestinians injured in Israeli attacks, along with 17 family members, were allowed to leave for treatment in Egypt. Ambulances and aid vehicles were seen gathering for the transfer.
The reopening followed nearly three weeks of closure after the wider regional war began on February 28. The crossing had previously resumed limited operations in early February, offering one of the few remaining exit routes for Palestinians seeking urgent treatment abroad. The ceasefire framework tied to those movements has remained under severe strain, with violence in Gaza continuing despite broader diplomatic efforts.
Fighting in Gaza has intensified again in recent days. A recent report described more than 600 Palestinians killed since the October ceasefire began, while separate reporting said Israeli attacks in Gaza had declined briefly after the regional war expanded, then started rising again.
